Medical Review Policy

How Ayuvaan approaches clinical accuracy, medical reviewer standards, and health content safety for Indian users.

Our Medical Content Philosophy

Ayuvaan is a preventive health education platform, not a medical service. We believe that Indian families deserve access to accurate, clear, and safe health information in their own language and cultural context.

Our medical content is designed to help people understand their health numbers, recognise warning signs, and have better conversations with their doctors — never to replace those doctors.

Content Safety Standards

Every health-related page on Ayuvaan must meet these safety standards before or during publication:

  • Non-diagnostic language: No content will claim to diagnose a medical condition. Language always uses "may," "often associated with," or "screening range."
  • Normal ranges: All reference ranges are sourced from established clinical guidelines. Where ranges vary, this variability is noted.
  • Red flags: Every clinical content page must include clear "when to seek urgent care" guidance.
  • Disclaimer: A medical safety notice appears on every health content page.
  • Doctor consultation guidance: Every page includes "when to consult a doctor" guidance.
  • No treatment recommendations: Ayuvaan does not recommend specific medicines, dosages, or treatment protocols.

Medical Reviewer Standards

Ayuvaan is in the process of building a formal clinical review panel. Our planned reviewer standards include:

  • Reviewers must hold valid Indian medical degrees (MBBS minimum; MD or specialty degree preferred for their area).
  • Reviewers must be registered with the Medical Council of India or equivalent state body.
  • Each page will carry the reviewer's name and last-reviewed date once the formal review process is complete.
  • Reviewers will have no conflicts of interest related to the content they review.

Current Status:Ayuvaan is in its early launch phase. Content has been written with reference to established clinical guidelines but has not yet undergone formal physician review. Pages are marked with "References placeholder" where citations are pending. We prioritise transparency about this status.

India-Specific Medical Standards

Ayuvaan content applies India-specific clinical standards where they differ from Western guidelines:

  • BMI cutoffs: We use South Asian / Indian BMI risk thresholds (23 kg/m² for overweight, 27.5 for obesity) as recommended by the Indian Consensus Group and WHO South Asia guidelines.
  • Blood pressure: We reference both standard 140/90 and American Heart Association 130/80 thresholds with context.
  • Seasonal health: We include India-specific seasonal disease patterns (dengue, malaria, chikungunya, typhoid seasons).
  • Dietary examples: All diet guidance uses Indian foods, cooking methods, and portions.
  • Lab ranges: We note that lab ranges can vary between Indian labs and advise using the ranges printed on the user's own report.

Emergency Guidance Standards

All clinical pages on Ayuvaan that involve health metrics or symptoms must include emergency warning signs. The standard emergency signs included are:

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Severe breathlessness or inability to speak in full sentences
  • Confusion, altered consciousness, or seizures
  • Very high blood pressure with symptoms (above 180/120 with chest pain or neurological signs)
  • Very low blood sugar with confusion or loss of consciousness
  • Stroke symptoms (sudden weakness, speech difficulty, face drooping)
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
  • Pregnancy-related emergencies

Emergency number in India: 108 (national ambulance service) or the nearest emergency department.
